Here’s what to expect with joint injections.
Joint injections are done in the office under fluoroscopy. No preparation is needed. If you take a blood thinner, we will inform you when to stop taking it prior to your injection.
The area to be injected will be cleaned in a sterile fashion. The physician will inject a small needle containing a local anesthetic and steroid medication into the affected joint space. The needle will then be removed and a band aid will be placed over the injection site.
You will be encouraged to limit movement of the affected area for two hours following the treatment. Most patients notice relief in 24-48 hours.
