Here’s what to expect with carpal tunnel injections.
No preparation needed for carpal tunnel injections. Simply arrive at the office for your scheduled treatment time and we’ll handle the rest.
We will first clean your wrist with betadine or chloraprep. Using ultrasound guidance, your physician will inject lidocaine and methylprednisolone (steroid) into the affected tendons. The treatment will take about 10-15 minutes. You will need to stay for about 15 minutes after your injection to monitor for side effects.
You will be asked to restrict movement of the affected wrist for approximately 2 hours following the injection. Your wrist will feel good for several hours after the treatment as a result of the lidocaine in the injection. As the lidocaine wears off, you may feel discomfort at the injection site, as well as your usual wrist pain. The steroid will kick in about 24-48 hours after the treatment, so you will notice relief about a day or two later.
